The Upper Sixth at West Kirby Grammar School were enthusiastic participants in an Open Space event run by TTWK on September 10th. In response to the question “How they could respond creatively and positively to the eventuality of oil being $300 a barrel?” they came up with a wide variety of thought provoking ideas. One suggestion was an “eco-gym” - whereby energy expounded when exercising on bikes etc was converted into energy to power our homes. People could be paid to exercise - providing employment and fighting the battle against obesity - all via a totally renewable energy source!
Other students looked at the impact on world conflicts, on their own higher education choices, alternatives to fossil fuel, government involvement and responsibilities, public transport issues and equally importantly - the potential impact on their social lives.
All in all, a direct demonstration of the transition initiative call to “unleash the collective, creative genius of the community” in response to the very real energy challenges we face!
