Transition Town West Kirby update

Hi and welcome to the latest update. Below you will find a brief reminder of this week’s activities, details of new events to come plus a chance to grow your own.

Tomorrow, Wednesday our Business as Usual event begins at 7.30 featuring Simon Snowden from the University of Liverpool. Simon will be advising small business on how to prepare for an energy scarce future. This is a one-off chance to benefit from the experience of Britain’s foremost advisor to business on oil depletion and a great chance to meet other local business people. There will also be a Transition perspective on the local economy as well as plenty of time for friendly debate.

The venue is the main hall at the United Reformed Church on Meols Drive. Admission is free and refreshments will be available.

To tie-in with this event we have arranged a screening of the film Money As Debt (47 minutes). If you are bemused by the credit crunch and generally bamboozled by modern finance this is definitely the event for you. It will certainly open your eyes to current events and will be accompanied by a brief exploration of how all this relates to Transition. It’s at 8pm on Monday November 3rd in the cosy room at the URC.

Travelling Light is the theme for our lantern parade on the evening of November 11th and associated lantern making workshop this coming Friday (at WK library 11am-3pm). More details here of what promises to be a great community event.

Finally, Transition Towns have pioneered the idea of Garden Share where people with gardens but no time to tend them share them with people who want to grow fruit and veg but have no space of their own. To help get things moving here our local Sustrans Bike-it officer Simon Wallis has kindly offered up his own patch. Find out more here.
