TTWK update

Welcome to the latest update from TTWK.

Firstly, a reminder that this coming Monday sees our screening of the highly acclaimed film Age of Stupid. Full details are on our blog site. Posters are up around West Kirby as well. If you can help by displaying posters for our events. Please let us know.

This Saturday July 11th at 8pm, TTWK is hosting a community gathering at Red Rocks beach to which all are welcome. Please bring food to share, and non-alcoholic drink (the beach is an alcohol free zone). Don't forget to bring your own plate etc. and some wood for the bonfire, if you have any. If it's chucking it down, we'll be in the United Reformed Church on Meols Drive instead. The Loose Moose String Band have kindly agreed to come and entertain us. Hope to see you there.

On Sunday, July 19th there is a Big Lunch event in Hoylake. It’s on Cable Road which will be closed to traffic from 2-5pm. Bring food & drink to share, art materials if you have them, musical instruments/voice if you have one and enthusiasm. All welcome. Telephone 632 3261 for more details.

Over recent weeks there has been an informal community bike ride each Sunday afternoon around West Kirby/Hoylake. The emphasis is on having fun but it also aims to promote safe cycling and allow nervous cyclists the opportunity to benefit from cycling on the road as part of a wider group. It is hoped that this will become a regular fixture if it continues to attract support.. Meet on West Kirby prom at the bottom of Riversdale Road at 3pm. The pace is gentle and we aim to finish around 4pm. All ages welcome. Parents/guardians are responsible for their children.

Our food group is doing some rather wonderful things. As readers of the Daily Post discovered this week our Garden Orchard project is now up and running. A local nursery has agreed to sell us fruit trees as a discount which we can pass on at cost price. We will be visiting them for advice in drawing up a short list of trees which would be suitable for different gardens. The trees will be delivered in the autumn. If you are interested in participating, please get in touch.

Other food related activities include plans for a Community Garden. We are putting forward a proposal for a collection of raised beds in central West Kirby where people can have a go at grow-your-own.

Allotments - We are still pressing the Council for more allotments. Anyone interested in having an allotment is encouraged to apply in order to show the underlying demand. You can download an allotment application form here and see a list of Wirral allotment sites here.

We're also looking to get some of the following off the ground - public talk on veg growing - foraging / scrumping / berry picking trips - reskilling - preserving, bottling etc.

So there is plenty to get involved with. Please email ttwk.food@gmail.com to participate in or to find out more about any of these projects, or to come to our next meeting on Wed.12th August, 8pm. All welcome.

Finally, West Kirby library has very kindly agreed to host our truly inspiring display of all things Transition. It runs throughout July. Pass it on.

Yours in Transition the Transition Town West Kirby team 632 5366 http://www.transitiontownwestkirby.org.uk/ http://transitiontownwestkirby.blogspot.com/
