TTWK update

Welcome to a brief update from TTWK with important information below on allotments, another lantern workshop this Tuesday and a brief survey for pedestrians.

New Allotment Association
A petition was recently submitted asking for land at Gilroy Road to be used for allotments. This was discussed at a council committee meeting earlier this month. Councillors moved to endorse the use of the land as allotments, subject to further work being done by council officers.

If an allotment site is developed there it would be a private one, set up and managed by a formally constituted allotment society (as at the Hoylake allotment site). In order to pursue this, we would like to invite you to the inaugural meeting of the Gilroy Road Allotment Society - on Wednesday 18th November at 8pm at the Scout Hut in Grange Park, West Kirby. To see a map of the Scout Hut and the area of land for potential allotments at Gilroy Road, visit this Google map

Membership of the Allotment Society will not guarantee an allotment. Assuming that we are successful in setting up a site there, this will require a commitment in time and effort, including attracting funding; it would only be fair that the allotments be allocated to those who have contributed to this effort.

At this stage it would be helpful to have expressions of interest and an idea as to how many are likely to attend the inaugural meeting. We are also looking for volunteers to put forward their names for Chair, Secretary and Treasurer of the Association. Please email ttwk.food@googlemail.com.

You can use the same address to get further involved with our food group and the many activities that are currently being pursued.

Also, a reminder that our public event with Patrick Holden of the Soil Association is fast approaching. Full details here.

Lantern Workshop Reprise
Our recent lantern workshop was a huge success with around 50 participants. Consequently, an additional workshop has been organised for this coming Tuesday, October 27th 10.45-2pm. The venue is the United Reformed Church, Meols Drive, CH48 5DA. Booking essential on 625 8474. Bring your own lunch. Admission free, donations welcome.

Calling all Pedestrians
Please take a couple of minutes to complete this survey. This follows on from an earlier survey in June and the results will be used to inform discussions with Wirral Council aimed at improving conditions for pedestrians.
