TTWK update

Lots to digest below including details on a free bike maintenance course, an update on allotments and other food group activities, local consultations on transport and waste as well as something for anyone interested in renewable energy in the home.

Free bike maintenance course

TTWK has helped organise a free bicycle maintenance session for adults and children aged 10 and upwards. The course takes place on Saturday June 19th in West Kirby from 1.30 to 3.30. There are a small number of places left so don’t delay if you want to secure a spot. Further details here.

Also, if you need encouragement to get out on two wheels why not join in the free guided bike ride between Hoylake and Hamilton Square this Saturday. Click here for all the details.

TTWK in the news

TTWK has a growing profile in the local media. Most recently, our attempts to secure additional allotments has again been featured.  However, we reached a much wider audience recently when numerous national media picked up on our updated report on allotment provision across the country. This showed that Wirral is by no means alone in having a chronic and growing shortage in allotment provision. You can access our report and the extensive media coverage via Transition Culture.

Local consultations on transport and waste management

TTWK recently coordinated a response to the local transport plan for Merseyside on behalf of Transition groups across the region. You can download the findings here. For further details on our transport related activities, visit our website.

A new consultation on dealing with the region’s waste strategy is now up and running. If you would be interested in contributing to a response please get in touch.

Food Group News

Or recent “food for free” walk was a great success with dozens of participants. Photos of the event are on our blog site. We discovered over a dozen varieties of “free food” along a half mile stretch of the Wirral Way. Thanks to everyone who participated. Another foray is planned for the Autumn so stay tuned.

We will also be repeating our skills sharing session on bread making as the last one was over subscribed. To find out more email ttwk.food@gmail.com and if you have any other ideas for skill sharing do get in touch.

Renewable energy in the home

Feed-in-tariffs for domestic renewable energy came into force in April. These have prompted a surge in interest in domestic energy generation. If you have installed renewable energy in your home and would be willing to share your experiences with others via a brief talk or a site visit then please email ttwk.energy@gmail.com.

Further details on feed-in-tariffs can be found on Wirral’s CRed website along with lots of tips on how to cut your carbon footprint and details of local low-carbon events.
