We are going to put in an order for fruit trees at the beginning of October to MorreysNursery, a local grower near Delamere in Cheshire. They have previously supplied trees to Transition Town West Kirby for planting in Grange Park. (There will be another planting day in Grange Park on 21November).
If you are interested in ordering, please have a look at Morreys website
(http://morreys-nursery.com/fruit.html). They sell a wide variety of fruit trees and shrubs. Morreys have offered to supply fruit trees at £12.50 for bush types and£14.95 for half standards (pictures of these are on the website). These are last year’s prices which they are holding for us this year. They generally supply trees grafted onto a semi vigorous rootstock (fruittrees are not usually grown from seed, but have a section of the desiredvariety grafted onto root of a more common type). These trees will grow to8-10 feet high.

They are putting together astock list in the next few weeks, which will have details of all the treesthey are selling this yea r, and the rootstock they are growing on. We wille mail this out when we get it from Morreys. The trees will be delivered around 21 November.
There are so many apple varieties it can sometimes be hard to know what to choose. The main choice is between cooking and eating apples. Popular cooking varieties are Grenadier, Howgate Wonder and Bramleys Seedling. Popular desert apples are Cox’s Self Fertile, James Grieve and Laxton’s Fortune. Almost all apple trees need another variety of apple tree nearby for fertilisation (Bramley’s Seedling needs two). The only variety that does not is Cox’s Self Fertile.
If you are interested please have a look at Morreys website, think about what you might like to order and email ttwk.food@googlemail.com to let us know you are interested (email with any questions too or call Margaret Campbell on 625 0608). We will email out the updated stock list when we get it from Morreys and will invite orders during September.
