Merseyside Transport Plan 2011 to 2024

Give your views on the Merseyside Transport Plan 2011 to 2024

A Transport Plan is being drawn up for Merseyside to cover the period from April 2011 until 2024, and there is currently public consultation on the plans until 30 November. TTWK has already made a submission which you can read here (pdf 5MB). However, the issues and concerns we have raised have been largely omitted from the summary of responses and the Draft Strategy itself. We would therefore encourage you to make your voice heard before the final deadline on November 30.

Many people feel that the key questions governing what the roads will be like over this period are
(1) whether speed limits are reduced on non-major roads from 30 mph to 20 mph, as has been done in many cities on the continent and some in the UK, and
(2) whether or not there is a large increase in the share of funding allocated to walking and cycling (currently the share is less than 10%, contrasting with the statistic that 60% of people on Merseyside do not own a car).

If you would like to have your say on these questions, you can copy the text below, and paste it into an email to info@transportmerseyside.org. Then edit the text to reflect your views, add your postcode, any other opinions, and your name, and send it with the header “LTP3 Consultation”.  The Merseyside Transport Partnership which is running the consultation has said that all views submitted will be taken into account however they are received.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to give my view concerning Merseyside’s Third Local Transport Plan.

(a) I would like the speed limit in the road where I live to be 20 mph / 30 mph (delete as applicable)
(b) I would like the speed limit at my local shops to be 20 mph / 30 mph (delete as applicable)
(c) For every £100 of my taxes spent on the roads, I would like £*** to be spent on facilities for motor vehicles and £*** to be spent on walking and cycling (complete as desired)
(d) My post code is ***
I also think ***
