Forage along the Wirral Way
Join us for a short walk and exploration of the many edible plants along the Wirral Way in West Kirby. Meet 10 am at the start of the Wirral Way opposite the Concourse. Bring a basket (and maybe a brolly?). Talking of foraging, here's a recipe for elderflower bubbly. Now, are there elderflowers along the Wirral Way . . . ?

West Kirby Farmers' Market
We finally have a starting date for a monthly local producers' market in West Kirby - Saturday 24th November - and every 4th Saturday thereafter. We're just putting together a market application form to go out to local producers, and we'd love to hear from you all about what produce you'd most like to buy at the market before we finally allocate pitches. Please visit this link and do our quick tick list of produce, it'll only take a couple of minutes. You can leave your contact details too, if you want, to receive monthly newsletters with news from producers, recipes using seasonal produce and special offers from local shops and producers too.

Local eggs
In the West Kirby Messenger we asked you to let us know where in West Kirby to buy local eggs and had a great response. Check out our new factsheet West Kirby Eggs and see Incredible Edible Hoylake's Hoylake local egg guide. Of course, if you know of anyone else selling local eggs, please let us know.
Why buy local food?
A new report just released from CPRE investigted the impact of shopping local on local economies. This report presents findings and recommendations from an extensive five-year national project, looking at the network of links between people who buy, sell, produce and supply food sourced locally. The report illustrates how buying local food increases employment and wealth in the locality. You can see more and download the report (9Mb) here or see TTWK's article published in the June edition of West Kirby Messenger.
Incredible Edible
With an increasing number of attractive and bountiful beds and borders around town, Incredible Edible Hoylake are changing public spaces and gathering support from growers and pickers along the way. Download their June newsletter to see what's growing where, and they have a really productive Facebook page.
Meanwhile, we now have an Incredible Edible WK planter (on Grange Road where it meets the corner of Westbourne Road), full of Italian herbs for free picking. Thanks to Shirley for planting and looking after this.
Climate Change Survey
Wirral’s Climate Change Group wants your views to help shape a new climate change strategy for Wirral. The group has launched an on-line survey – to gather local views about ways to cut climate pollution.
The survey is the first step in a series of planned activities designed to give local people the chance to influence the shape of a new Wirral Climate Change Strategy. The on-line survey, launched to coincide with the United Nations Rio Summit in June, runs through to the end of August.
