Waiting lists for allotments in Wirral have increased by 70% in the last eight months. There are now 560 people waiting, and all sites now have a waiting list.
Dave Morris has been appointed to take up the post of Allotment Development Officer, to start soon. The following are amongst his duties:
a) To review current allotment provision and identify current need.
b) To identify any additional allotment sites that are required and areas which have no allotment provision.
c) To investigate potential funding sources for allotments.
d) To prepare applications for grant aid and external funding as directed.
Council officers are still preparing the bid for a rolling programme of capital funding. Our understanding is that this will request £100,000 per year for each of the next three years.
Anyone interested in having an allotment is encouraged to apply in order to show the underlying demand. You can download an allotment application form here and see a list of Wirral allotment sites here.
